🎮This summer: build Moonleaf — a brand new Griffpatch adventure with sword action, enemies & levels you design

3 Months for $17/mo (save 32%)

For Every Black Friday signup, Griffpatch funds a GIF global access spot so kids worldwide can learn to code!

This summer, your child gets to build Moonleaf — a brand new Griffpatch adventure that's never existed before.

The online summer coding camp for kids aged 7–14 — where they build a real adventure game guided by the world's #1 block coding educator. Sword-swinging action, mysterious worlds, enemies, bosses and levels they design themselves.

This summer, Griffpatch created something brand new.

Not a repeat. Not something you'll find on YouTube. Not something any Griffpatch fan has ever seen before.

"Moonleaf — a never-before-released scrolling platformer adventure, created exclusively for Griffpatch Academy's Summer Program."

A mysterious world. Animated characters. Sword-swinging action. Enemy encounters. Boss challenges. Dangerous hazards, dramatic effects, and levels your child designs themselves.

This isn't a basic coding exercise This is Griffpatch Academy's Summer Coding Program — an online adventure game your child builds themselves, from scratch, in Scratch, guided step by step, from home, at their own pace. And it's genuinely impressive!

If your child knows Griffpatch, they already know this summer is going to be something special. If they don't know him yet — they're about to find the most exciting coding educator on the internet.

Here's what you need to know:

Griffpatch is the most-followed coding educator for kids on the planet. 450,000+ YouTube subscribers. Used by teachers in classrooms across the US, UK, and beyond. He's the only coding creator kids actually finish projects for — not because they have to, but because he makes building feel like the most exciting thing they could be doing with their time.

He's been described by parents as "the only person my son has ever wanted to watch twice."

This summer, he built something just for Academy members.

100% online and self-paced — your child builds from home at their own pace, any time that suits your summer schedule. Most kids complete Moonleaf across the summer holidays and have a finished game to show for it by the end.

Which parent are you this summer?

Two kinds of parents find their way here. See which one is you.

She's already on her phone looking for something.

Not something to occupy her child — she's past that. Something that actually leads somewhere. Something she won't feel quietly guilty about in September when she looks back at how the summer went.

Her child has been on screens since school ended. Games, YouTube, more games. She can hear the jumping sounds from the next room right now.

She's not angry. She just knows there's a better version of this summer — and she hasn't found it yet.

"I don't want to look back on this summer and feel like we wasted it. I want him to have something to show for it."

If that's you — you're exactly who this is for.

Or maybe this is you instead...

Your child is bright. Curious. Already interested in how things work, not just how to use them.

You're not worried about screen time. You're thinking bigger.

"Coding is the most important skill a child can learn right now. I want my child building real foundations — not just dabbling."

Summer is the perfect window. No school schedule. No homework. Just time — and the question of what to do with it.

You've looked at options. Most feel too light, too slow, or too disconnected from anything real. You want something with structure, progression, and a result your child can actually show.

If that's you — you're in exactly the right place.

Griffpatch Academy exists for both of these parents.

And for both of these children.

🗡️ This Summer's Build: Moonleaf

A brand new Griffpatch adventure. Never seen before. Built by your child this summer.

Every summer, kids play other people's games.

This summer, yours builds one.

Moonleaf is a never-before-released scrolling platformer adventure — created by Griffpatch exclusively for the Academy Summer Program.

It's the kind of game that moves, breathes, and feels genuinely impressive the moment you hit play.

Here's what your child will build:

🗡️ Sword-swinging arcade action — a full battle system with attacks, enemy reactions, knockback and exciting encounters. This isn't a passive platformer. It fights back.

👾 Enemies, hazards and bosses — patrolling enemies, spike pits, smarter enemy behaviour that reacts to the player, and larger boss-style challenges that teach highly sought-after game coding techniques.

🌿 A mysterious world they bring to life — atmospheric backgrounds, animated characters, layered level design, mood, effects and visual storytelling that make the game world feel alive.

🏃 Large scrolling levels they design themselves — vertical climbs, long jumps, dangerous paths, horizontal exploration. A game world that feels much bigger than the screen, with adventurous routes they create.

🎨 Creative freedom built in — they draw their own character, design their own levels, customise enemies, add story ideas and make the game feel unmistakably theirs.

✨ Polish that makes it feel professional — damage flashes, impact feedback, screen effects, smooth animation and satisfying action moments. The kind of details that make people say: "you made this in Scratch?"

And when summer ends?

They have a complete, finished adventure game — on their Scratch profile, with their name on it, with a personal comment from Griffpatch himself.

Not a certificate.

A game. Built by them. That's genuinely impressive to play.

Summer started. Eight weeks from now, it's over. Your child could spend it playing someone else's adventure — or building their own.

Built alongside kids who get it.

One of the best things about building Moonleaf isn't just what your child creates.

It's who they create it with.

A global community of kids aged 7–14 who love games, love making things, and understand exactly what it means to spend an afternoon getting a sword attack to feel just right.

Kids who share progress. Ask questions. Help each other when something breaks. And celebrate when someone finishes a level they've been working on for a week.

Your child isn't just joining a course. They're joining their people.

For the parent: No more building alone, getting stuck, and quietly giving up. The community keeps them moving — and our Mentor system rewards the kids who help others, encouraging kindness, patience, communication and leadership along the way.

For the child: The friends you make here understand what you're building. When you share your Moonleaf game with them — they know exactly how hard it was to make that boss fight work. And they'll tell you it's awesome.

Here's the difference between a great summer and a forgettable one.

It's not how much screen time your child has. It's what they do with it.

Right now, most kids are spending their summer watching someone else build something. Play something. Create something.

There's a word for that.

Consuming.

And here's the thing most parents don't realise:

The exact obsession that keeps your child glued to a screen? It's the same obsession that makes extraordinary builders, engineers, and creators — if it's pointed in the right direction.

The love of games. The hours inside game worlds. The pattern recognition, the curiosity, the way they notice every mechanic.

That's not distraction. That's a creator's brain, waiting to be activated.

This summer, instead of watching games — your child builds one.

A real one. A scrolling platformer adventure with sword action, enemies, bosses and levels they design themselves.

Brand new Griffpatch content that no one outside the Academy has ever seen.

The old approach doesn't work either.

YouTube tutorials teach — but no one notices what your child builds. No one helps when it breaks. No one is waiting on the other side saying "show me what you made."

Random courses start strong. Then life happens. Interest fades. And the guilt of another abandoned subscription quietly lands.

This is different.

For the parent reading this right now.

You've probably landed here because you searched for something like "summer coding camp" or "coding club for kids this summer."

Maybe you've already looked at a few options. Most feel too light, too slow, or too disconnected from anything your child actually cares about.

Here's what makes this different.

Your child already knows Griffpatch. Or they already love Scratch. Or they already love games.

We're not asking them to change what they love.

We're just asking them to go one step further.

From playing → to building.

From watching → to creating.

From consuming → to making something that's actually theirs.

Most summer coding camps give your child a week of fun and a certificate for a downloads folder.

This gives them a complete adventure game they built themselves, real coding skills that carry into every subject at school, and a personal comment from the most respected name in their world — permanently on their Scratch profile.

This is real computer science.

For parents who want to know what they're actually learning.

Block coding isn't a stepping stone away from real programming — it is real programming.

The logic your child develops building Moonleaf:

📌 Sequencing — understanding how instructions flow in order

📌 Conditionals — if this happens, then do that

📌 Loops — repeating actions efficiently

📌 Variables — storing and changing information

📌 Collision detection — the physics of interactive worlds

📌 Enemy behaviour — logic that makes characters react, patrol and respond

📌 Animation systems — bringing characters and worlds to life

These aren't simplified concepts. They are the core building blocks of Python, JavaScript, and every programming language they'll encounter in school, university, and beyond.

Kids who build with Griffpatch don't just learn to code.

They learn to think like engineers.

And when they sit down with Python for the first time? It won't feel foreign. It will feel familiar — because they've already been thinking this way for months.

This isn't just a summer activity. This is the foundation of a future.

How it works.

The Griffpatch Build-Along Method

Griffpatch doesn't teach coding as a subject.

He guides children through building real, complete games — like following a LEGO manual from start to finish, but with video. Every concept, every mechanic, every line of logic woven in as they build — not delivered as a lecture to sit through.

Kids don't just watch. They build.

And at the end of the season? They have something real. Something finished. Something they made.

Something they can show.

"I made this."

That sentence changes everything — for your child's confidence, their identity, and their belief in what they're capable of.

Everything waiting inside the Academy this Summer.

🗡️ The Summer Build: Moonleaf

A never-before-released Griffpatch adventure — exclusive to the Academy

The moment they join, they're straight into Moonleaf — video by video, step by step, from the very first line of code to a finished, polished adventure game.

No waiting. No confusion about where to start. No version of this anywhere on YouTube.

For the parent: You'll know exactly what they're building, what they learned today, and how far they've come.

For the child: You're building something nobody else has — a brand new Griffpatch world, created just for you this summer. And Griffpatch is building it with you.

🏆 Get Noticed by Griffpatch

Themed Game Jam CODING COMPETITIONS

Every six weeks, a new themed Game Jam opens. Griffpatch personally reviews every submission and leaves a comment publicly on your child's Scratch profile.

Their friends can see it. Their teachers can see it. The whole community can see it.

For the parent: This is the moment your child turns the screen around and says — "Look what I made. Griffpatch commented on mine."

For the child: Griffpatch. Commented. On your game. A real comment, from the person you watch on YouTube — about something you made.

🤝 A Community That Gets It

Safe. Moderated. Warm.

A global community of kids who love exactly what your child loves — where they can share their Moonleaf progress, ask questions, get unstuck, and find their people.

Griffpatch is active in the forum every single day.

For the parent: You don't need to understand coding to support them. The community does that for you — and our Mentor system rewards the kids who step up to help others.

For the child: When something breaks — someone's always there to help. And sometimes? Griffpatch himself answers.

📚 A Library That Never Runs Out

Every Season. Every Build.

When Moonleaf is done, the whole Griffpatch back-catalogue is waiting — exclusive builds not on YouTube, extended projects, new genres, new challenges.

Summer is where it starts. But it doesn't have to end there.

Moonleaf is brand new, exclusive content — created specifically for this summer. Once the season ends, this moment is gone.

And there's more.

🐧 Never Start from Zero

The Coding Starter Kit

Brand new to coding? No problem. The Starter Kit walks any child through building their very first game — the Penguin Maze Escape — in just a few hours. A quick win. A confidence builder. The moment they realise they can do this.

For the parent: "My child isn't ready" — handled before it becomes a reason not to start. For the child: You build your first real game before Moonleaf even starts. You'll know you can do this — because you already did.

🤲 The Kindness Ladder

Peer Recognition & Community Leadership

When a member helps a fellow student, peers can nominate them with a single click. It's not about being the best coder — it's about being the best community member.

10 nominations → Official Mentor recognition

50 nominations → Elite Academy Ambassador status

Personal invite from Griffpatch → Community Moderator with exclusive badge

For the parent: You're not just investing in coding skills. You're investing in your child's character — their kindness, their leadership, their ability to lift others.

For the child: You don't have to be the best at coding to be recognised here. You just have to show up for others — and others will show up for you.

📬 The Non-Technical Parent's Welcome Series

Your Peace of Mind, From Day One

A dedicated welcome email series written specifically for parents who don't understand coding. Tells you exactly what to expect, how to support your child without understanding a single line of code, and how to see your child thriving — even if you can't follow what they're building.

"You don't need to understand what they're making to know they're becoming something."

Why learn from Griffpatch?

Kids already know him. And they already love him.

If your child has spent any time on Scratch, there's a good chance they already know who Griffpatch is.

He's not just another coding teacher on the internet.

🎥 450,000+ YouTube subscribers

🏫 Used by teachers in classrooms across the US, UK, and beyond

🏆 The creator kids actually finish projects for

🌍 Students from over 50 countries learning inside the Academy

But this isn't about numbers. It's about something harder to measure.

For over a decade, Griffpatch has been the educator kids choose — not the one they're assigned. He makes coding feel like the most exciting thing they could be doing with their time. Parents trust him because kids don't just start projects. They finish them. They stay motivated. They come back.

And this summer? He created something he's never released before.

Moonleaf is brand new. Exclusive to the Academy. Your child's friends outside the Academy won't have access to it.

For fans — this is a moment.

For newcomers — this is the perfect place to start.

Is this right for your child?

This is for your child if:

  • They love games and want to build their own

  • They've tried tutorials but nothing ever stuck

Most families who join monthly switch to annual within their first season. Because once your child builds their first game — they're not going anywhere.

Our Summer Promise.

No risk. No lock-in. Cancel any time.

But here's our specific promise for this summer:

Complete Moonleaf. If they don't have a real, finished adventure game to show for it — the next season is completely free.

This is the summer coding camp that actually delivers. We're putting our name on that.

This is the summer that changes things.

Most summers blur together. This one won't.

Picture the last week of August. Your child sits you down and says:

"I want to show you something."

They open their Scratch profile. There's a game — a proper adventure, a scrolling world with sword fights and enemies and levels they designed themselves. There's a comment on it. From Griffpatch.

You think back to the moment you nearly scrolled past this page.

This isn't screen time you'll feel guilty about.

This is the summer coding camp that actually went somewhere.

Summer has a natural deadline. So does Moonleaf.

The only version of August you'll regret is the one where you didn't start.

Questions? We’ve Got You Covered.

🏖️What exactly is Griffpatch Academy's Summer Program?

It's an online coding camp where kids aged 7–14 build a complete adventure game called Moonleaf — guided step by step by Griffpatch, the world's most-followed block coding educator for kids. It's 100% online, completely self-paced, and your child can start today from home. No coding experience needed, no fixed session times, and no equipment required beyond a computer and internet connection.

🧒My child has never coded. Can they do this?

Absolutely. If they can use a mouse and keyboard, they can follow along. The Coding Starter Kit builds their confidence with a first complete game before Moonleaf even begins. Confidence first, everything else after.

🔥My child already knows Scratch — will Moonleaf challenge them?

Yes. Moonleaf includes advanced techniques — scrolling levels, enemy AI, battle systems, health mechanics and polished effects — that push even experienced Scratch users. And the Game Jam challenges every level.

🔥Is this live or self-paced? Do they need to log on at a specific time?

Completely self-paced and on-demand. There are no fixed session times — your child logs on whenever suits them and works through Moonleaf at their own pace. Perfect for a summer schedule that changes week to week.

🧒Is this just for summer, or does it continue?

Summer is a great time to start — but the Academy runs year-round, season by season. You can cancel any time, but most families don't.

🕛How much time does it take?

Just 2–3 sessions per week. Lessons are short, self-paced, and designed to fit into existing screen time — not add to a busy schedule. Even 2–3 sessions a week produces visible progress within the first month.

🛡️Is it safe?

The Academy runs inside a closed, moderated platform. No ads. No strangers. No open chatrooms. Fully monitored and safe for children.

🔧Do we need special equipment?

Just a computer and internet connection. Scratch is a free, beginner-friendly coding platform used by millions of children and teachers worldwide — your child will build Moonleaf entirely inside it. It runs in the browser, so there's nothing to download or install.

🏫 Will this actually help them in school?

Yes. The logical thinking, structured problem-solving, and persistence developed through building real projects translates directly into stronger academic performance — particularly in maths, science, and technology subjects.

🚀 What makes Griffpatch different from other online coding teachers?

Although there are many other online coding teachers out there who are excellent, Griffpatch Academy is simply unique.

🔥 Griffpatch - Get mentored and guided by the best known "Scratch coding" teacher out there – Griffpatch - The famed tutor, kids adore! Please note that Scratch® is a trademark of the Scratch Foundation. Although we teach block coding using the Scratch platform, Griffpatch LTD and Griffpatch Academy are not affiliated with or endorsed by Scratch.

🔥 Apprenticeship Learning - Some programs teach children how to block code through hacking already pre-created Scratch game. Instead, we teach children how to build a game from scratch! Using this apprentice-style, build like "LEGO" hands-on approach, we take students through important coding principles along the way where they can explore principles in game development and how to turn their creative ideas into reality!

🔥 Targeted - We only teach block coding in our Academy, and we go deep. This is because for young children, the block coding language is instantly approachable and yet is a true computing language, very capable for creating powerful & fun games. We won't be teaching Python or JavaScript here, but the core principles are the same & are fully transferable. Our Academy provides a robust foundation, strong enough to inspire a younger generation of coders to persevere with mastery, help them imagine, problem solve and create no matter what life later throws at them.

🔥 Learn Together - Although it's possible for students to learn at their own pace, we've also created learning experiences where students are led through the game creation process step by step, together. We believe that a rising tide elevates all ships, and for some students, taking action is easier when you know everybody else is doing the same.

🎓How much is it?

$25/month or $250/year (saving $50). Cancel any time. No hidden fees. No lock-in.

👩‍👧‍👧I'd like to register multiple children. Is this possible?

Only if you register them individually. If you’d like to enroll multiple children, you’ll need to complete the sign-up process separately for each child using a different email address. If you’re using the same web browser, simply log out of the Academy Hub (using the button at the top right), and then select the 'Sign Up' option on the login screen to register the next child. This is because each child must have their own account which will showcase their individual achievements and forum profile.

🌍 Will you be supporting non-English world languages?

This is something we hope to do in time... but to begin with, everything we do will be taught in English.

I'm an adult and I know how to code in other languages, but I still watch your videos, because having to translate the simple blocks into real code gives me a better understanding of how and why it works, than copying stuff off of Github or Stack Overflow. Thanks for all your help Griffpatch

Image

Carli (Student)

Your tutorials are fantastic! Although I've been on scratch for over 4 years, your tutorials still teach me new stuff. Your tutorials are really easy for anyone to understand- making the code very customizable! A key part of tutorials is explaining why you need that piece of code, how it works, and the like. Some people will just sit there telling you what to do- but not why it works. Thank you for being such an influential scratcher. Please keep it up! Plus: I'm looking forward to a new tutorial past this- possibly a roguelike? ;)

Mountain Tiger (Student)

Amazing video as before in this series. I started doing scratch and then moved on to C# and Unity and even in a more advanced language i still am learning things from you. You Rock Griffpatch ⚡ And out of all the videos uploaded by subscribers in my list i always watch your first!

Dawn (Student)

I love these tutorials! I'm a computer science student now, but my original interest in programming came from Scratch. The way you explain how things work in these videos is amazing, it's done in a way that even beginner Scratchers can pick up on, and I still find myself learning new and better ways to organize my code from them. I love seeing how much Scratch can really do...

Your Scratch tutorials are unmatched. I think you've found a perfect balance between keeping the videos a certain length and making sure the viewer understands what they're doing. I usually watch the tutorials before following them so I have a general idea of what I'm going to have to do when I eventually follow them. Keep doing what you're doing, because you're doing an incredible job. :)

Just want to say thanks for all the amazing tutorials. My son was off school for a a few days with an illness and we worked together to see who could finish as much of the mario platformer as possible. Loads of fun! He said he's learned way more doing your tutorials than he would have at school lol

Image

Eayuwna (Parent)

Thank you for all your efforts. My 9 year old son is now the king of his code club having followed your tutorial and has started asking me to teach him what sin, cos and tan are - wish me luck ;-) Your content is so well put together thank you so much.

Jean-Baptiste (Parent)

The pace is great. Sometimes we follow along with my son and sometimes we just watch you work your magic together. I can’t overstate the positive impact you have on my 7yo son, he loves you and we bond watching your videos.

Image

Daniel (Parent)

I am loving this series as my daughter is having great fun making gardens and house interiors with the editor.

Image

Steve (Parent)

Pace is great! We pause frequently but sometimes keep up. I’d rather that than too slow. My 11-yo and I are coding the rpg series together (each on separate computers) and it has been great quality time. He has done and loved many of your other videos. When I don’t follow the rationale of the script, I hit the back arrow for 10 or 20 second rewind and listen again after I have the code in place. Of course, my son gets it all the first time, sometimes even predicting what you’ll do next

Image

Mike (Grandparent)

As a retired electrical engineer... who has been coding for the last 50 years I have gone through the learning curve of becoming productive in a new programming language multiple times... My grandson and I have been getting together once or twice a week for over a year to develop our Scratch skills. Your video approach has allowed us to learn more about productive Scratch coding in the last 3 months than all we did in the previous year. You have a gift for explaining complex graphics concepts in terms that your followers can understand and adapt as we experiment with your code. You should feel good knowing how much you are contributing to the positive development of a whole generation of Scratchers.

George (Parent)

I am a Software Developer with over 30 years experience, but my son prefers learning from you :) And he really became very good with your videos and scratch. Thank you for your valuable work.

Hey Griffpatch, thanks for everything you've done for the Scratch education community! You helped me understand how platformers (among other things) work, and now as an educator, I use your projects and tutorials to help get my students excited about coding too! I'm also able to use what I learned studying your programs around 9 years ago to help teach my students. Thank you so much - your work is incredible!

This is amazing! Griffpatch, please know how incredible your projects are, but also these video contributions to the community. I teach computer programming, and I often use Scratch for many of my students. These tutorials help me teach students some really cool tricks.

I appreciate the smaller contained tutorials. I teach groups of students and often see them attempt your longer tutorials and quit a few videos in. Recently I've seen them thrilled to show off the car steering and ball physics ones they've completed. Thank you for all your doing. You are bringing smiles to students and teachers faces worldwide by introducing them to the joys of programming.

Great tutorials! I am a teacher using them with my students.

Hi there, I am a teacher and am using your tutorials with my code club I think the pace of the videos is perfect. The pupils and I follow along pausing when needed and rewinding if necessary. The theory at the beginning along with the additional theory throughout the video is why I use your tutorials, it explains what you are doing in a way that the children understand.

I had taught basic scratch games to my summer school students, they really loved it. I am surprised how far it has come since.

As a middle school teacher making scratch vids for my 10-13 year old students, it's a pleasure to have high level stuff being made that helps me as a teacher learn how to do things! I feel like there's only 3-5 other people consistently making high level Scratch content for advanced folks. Love it! :D

I have a student who wants to add robot arms to her robot sprite that rotates like true shoulder and elbow joints (we are studying the human body) how do I help her with this without a whole lot of variables (she is in grade 5 and I am her coding teacher)

I just joined! :D I love how it is really easy to join!

This is a dream come true!!

I'm so happy that you'll be opening an academy for beginning and vetran coders! I'm so excited to see how awesome this will make people's coding experiences. The whole reason I can program Scratch games like I do now is because of you, griffpatch. And you giving the same opportunities to people in a much better, easier-to-learn-in environment makes me even more excited! Great job, griffpatch, and thank you for your tutorials, devlogs, and now, this academy.

I am nine years old. And I love your channel!I found your channel when I was 7 years old. Since then, I have been coding in scratch. I have made many projects including:Custom 3D Raycasting, RPG with my own custom sprites, A plane shooter game, 2D classic platformer and much more including a few unfinished ones which are still under work. I can't wait to finish them with you and the entire Griffpatch community together!

This is Probably Going to be the Best Way im going to learn how to Scratch Even Better, Cuz i'm still learning scratch but i can find the right videos to help me get started ,some videos show the basis that i know and some videos show the more advanced thing i don't know so . since im still 11 ill try to get my parents to sign up and register on behalf of me

i can't wait to be part of the academy; this sounds epic!
